Subwaydle

Subwaydle presents a challenging puzzle for subway enthusiasts. Participants are tasked with guessing a specific set of three trains that can make a valid subway trip involving transfers between them. The goal is to find the one routing that matches the puzzle of the day, taking into account the rules and limitations of the New York City Subway system.

Rules and Limitations in Subwaydle

  • Each guess must be a valid subway trip involving 3 trains using available transfers between them.
  • No backtracking is allowed, meaning no stations can be traveled through more than once.
  • Transfers are only allowed when lines diverge, with specific transfer allowances to/from certain stations and between stations with free out-of-system transfers.
  • The routing for each train line is based on the midday schedule, and weekend puzzles are based on regularly scheduled weekend routings.

Challenge and Strategy

Participants must consider multiple routes that may be possible to make the trip, but their goal is to find the one route that matches the puzzle of the day. It should be noted that the solution may not necessarily be the fastest or most efficient routing, adding an element of strategy and problem-solving to the game.
